No Sew Freezie Pop Cozy Pattern
Updated: May 25, 2023
I came up with these little goodies about 15 years ago when my older 2 kiddos were little popsicle eating machines. Now of course I'm kicking myself for not writing up and publishing the pattern then, but honestly had no clue I was an actual legit designer at the time.
After years of going through roll after roll of paper towels and stacks of napkins every summer to protect their poor little hands from the dreaded freezing cold that went along with their favorite summer staple, I switched to using washcloths. Well after a couple days we were out of washcloths, and I decided it wasn't any better having to wash all of them constantly all summer either. I grabbed a pile of scrap cotton and went to work.
These little things last through a day of popsicle indulgence, get rinsed out in the sink, hung up to dry overnight, and are ready for round 2 the next morning. A couple times a week I give them a reprieve and put them in the wash, while their replacements have a turn to support my children's sugar filled summer addiction.
I HATED weaving in ends and figured I needed an alternative if I was going to mass produce these guys, since all the neighborhood kids needed them too. It's a good thing I did because before long the word got out and they were selling like hot cakes. They still are my best sellers at all my shows, even in December!
I received a call just yesterday asking if I had some on hand to sell and it hit me that I never shared the pattern with you all! It's been sitting there in a folder deep in the inner workings of my computer's hard drive all alone for years.
SOOOOOOOO...........................
Here you go!
Here's what you'll need to get started.......
Materials:
4ply Med Worsted 100% Cotton(approx. 20 yds)
F(3.75mm) Hook
Scissors
Needle
Abbreviations(US Terms):
ST = Stitch
SL= Slip Stitch
CH = Chain
SC = Single Crochet
HDC= Half Double Crochet
NOTES: I use up all my scrap cotton leftover from other projects to create these. Finished measurement should be 3.5” tall by 2” wide.
To begin Ch 16 leaving a longer tail to tie into a bow at the end.
ROW 1:(RS) HDC in the 2nd CH from the hook and in each ST across (15)
ROWS 2-10: CH 1(does not count as a ST) & turn, HDC in each ST across (15)
Fold in half(hot dog) right side out and SC ST the row ends together(not too tight).
Cut leaving a longer tail and tie off. Tie your ends in a bow and double knot it securely.
That's all there is to it! BUT I of course can't just make anything that simple. SO I went ahead and added my cute little display tags to the pattern as well. Just print these out on cardstock, cut them out, write your price on them, and slide the cozy on to display them at shows.
