Lil' Gingerbread Man Ornament Crochet Pattern
Every year I try to come up with about 10 new Christmas ornaments to take to my big 3 day craft show in the fall and add the patterns to a new Christmas Ornaments Ebook so others can also create them. Now that this show is over, I can gladly say this super cute gingerbread man was one of my best sellers. Hopefully you have the same success with them as I did.
This little guy is perfect for a magnet, ornament, keychain, pin, or anything else you can think of. Grab any WW4/Aran/10Ply yarn scraps and make up a few of your own. Your finished ornament should measure approximately 3” tall using Red Heart Super Saver yarns but could vary depending on which yarn you choose to use and your tension.
Here's what you'll need to get started.......
Materials:
Red Heart Super Saver yarn(approx. 12 yds)
H(5 mm) Hook
Scissors
Needle
OPTIONAL: Hot Glue, Small Bow, Jute Twine, Wooden Bead
Abbreviations(US Terms):
SK = Skip
sts = Stitches
ST = Stitch
SL= Slip Stitch
MR = Magic Ring
CH = Chain
SC = Single Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
DC = Double Crochet
TC = Treble Crochet
Make 2:
To begin create a MR
ROUND1: CH 1(does not count as a ST), place 8 HDC in your MR, SL to your beginning HDC to connect and cinch your MR shut
ROUND 2: You will now be creating the (arm, leg, leg, arm, head) in that order around your “center circle” HDC sts from round 1(see photos below).
ARM: [CH 4, HDC in the 2nd CH from your hook & in the next CH, DC in the last CH]
SL in the next 2 center circle sts,
LEG: [CH 6, HDC in the 2nd CH from your hook & in the next 2 CHs, DC in the last 2 CHs]
SL in the next center circle ST,
Create another LEG[to],
SL in the next 2 center circle sts,
Create another ARM[to],
SL in the next center circle ST,
HEAD: CH 1(does not count as a ST), place(SC, HDC, DC, TC) in the same ST, place(TC, DC, HDC, SC) in the last ST, CH 1 & SL in the last ST.
Cut & tie off leaving an extra long tail on your 2nd body to use to sew your 2 pieces together.
After you have made both the front & back body pieces, thread your needle with your long tail. Lay your pieces wrong sides together. Sew your piece together working (front to back, back to front) repeatedly around the outside of the whole body. Hide your tails inside to stuff the belly a bit. Cut, tie off, and weave in your final tail.
Hand stitch or hot glue a bow tie, add googly eyes, or whatever you like to the body to finish.
