Christmas Button Tree Crochet Pattern
Back in June, while trying to come up with some new stock for this year's winter craft shows and also working up some granny scrap blankets for donation, I got frustrated and started messing around with the squares I was working on. I've made a few standing decor accents in the past that have been a hit, so I decided to combine the 2 while also using up the materials I had on hand to create these adorable trees.

Since I have managed to sell out of these multiple times this year already, I decided I better get this pattern out so you all can make some too!
Here's what you'll need to get started.......

ST = Stitch
SL= Slip Stitch
CH = Chain
SC = Single Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet

NOTES: Finished tree will measure approx. 13” tall. You can create a smaller tree by working up to round 4 for an ornament or round 6 for a smaller stand option before seaming the square together. I work my granny squares slightly different from other designers to avoid moving seams and other things.
To begin CH 3 & SL to your beginning CH to connect to create a loop.
ROUND 1: CH 3(counts as a DC), place 2 DC in the loop, repeat(CH 2, 3 DC in the loop) 3 times, CH 2, SL to the top of your beginning CH 3 to connect
ROUND 2: TURN, SL in to the 1st CH 2 gap, CH 3 & DC in the gap, repeat(DC in the next 3 sts, place 2DC/CH2/2DC in the next gap) 3 times, DC in the next 3 sts, 2DC/CH2 in the next gap, SL to the top of your beginning CH 3 to connect

ROUND 4: TURN, SL in to the 1st CH 2 gap, CH 3 & DC in the gap, repeat(DC in the next 11 sts, place 2DC/CH2/2DC in the next gap) 3 times, DC in the next 11 sts, 2DC/CH2 in the next gap, SL to the top of your beginning CH 3 to connect
ROUND 5: TURN, SL in to the 1st CH 2 gap, CH 3 & DC in the gap, repeat(DC in the next 15 sts, place 2DC/CH2/2DC in the next gap) 3 times, DC in the next 15 sts, 2DC/CH2 in the next gap, SL to the top of your beginning CH 3 to connect
ROUND 6: TURN, SL in to the 1st CH 2 gap, CH 3 & DC in the gap, repeat(DC in the next 19 sts, place 2DC/CH2/2DC in the next gap) 3 times, DC in the next 19 sts, 2DC/CH2 in the next gap, SL to the top of your beginning CH 3 to connect

ROUND 8(right side): TURN, SL in to the 1st CH 2 gap, CH 3 & DC in the gap, repeat(DC in the next 27 sts, place 2DC/CH2/2DC in the next gap) 3 times, DC in the next 27 sts, 2DC/CH2 in the next gap, SL to the top of your beginning CH 3 to connect
Stop here, use a stitch marker to hold your working loop, and weave in your starting tail. Flip your panel over & follow the pics below to fold your panel.
Flip your panel over right side up and use stitch markers to mark where to place your buttons. Sew all your buttons on the front before moving on. I like to fold it back up and just make sure I don't want to add more buttons before seaming also.
Now flip your panel back over and replace your hook. SL into the gap across. Working in just the back loop of the stitches closest to you and the front loop of the stitches away from you, SL both sides together across to the next gap(31). SL in the gap, cut & tie off. Weave in your final tail.
Flip your bottom flap up and align your button with the final gap to use it as your buttonhole. Attach your final button and close your tree pouch.
Next grab all your materials to create the stand. I attach the dowel to the wood disc by drilling a hole in the center of the disc and using hot glue to attach the 2 first.
Once that is dry I add the tree to the dowel by inserting the dowel into the gap at the very bottom center of the fold. Attach your wooden star or whatever decoration you want to the top of your tree securing the dowel inside at the same time with hot glue.
Grab your Jute twine and hot glue the starting end to the bottom of your dowel and wood ring. Twist it up the dowel, adding a little glue here and there to attach it, just past the bottom of the tree so that the tree will cover the top of the twine.
Once the glue on the top of the jute dries, pull your tree back down over the top of the twine and open it up. Add a small amount of glue to hold the tree in place. When it's dry go ahead and close it back up, flip the tree over and add your bow. Add some cinnamon sticks, cloves, or whatever you like inside to create a natural air freshener.
